Topology optimization of irregular flow domain by parametric level set method in unstructured mesh

ABSTRACT In this study, we present a novel method for the topology optimization of irregular flow domain using parametric level set (PLSM). Some improvement was applied on CS-RBFs (radial basis functions with compact support)-based PLSM to make it suitable nonuniform mesh, expanding range field engineering application PLSM. The problem is solved by gradient-based algorithm Stokes equations as state constraints, and objective minimize power dissipation subject volume constraint channels. A introduced avoid direct solving Hamilton–Jacobi partial differential equation, which can have potential break through restriction relying structured meshes because no finite difference scheme required. Then, self-adaption support radius approach presented allow be evolved nonuniformed expand more complicated problems geometric shapes. integration during design sensitivity analysis calculate shape derivatives, allowing nucleation new holes. Numerical examples in two three dimensions are provided demonstrate effectiveness proposed method.
